After 30 years of teaching, coaching and working with chronic pain clients from Joe Bloggs to pro athletes and also drawing from my own private life, I’ve gathered a wealth of information that I want to share with you now… here goes…

If you avoid the following:

  • Losing weight
  • Lowering inflammation
  • Training for an event
  • Making your body stronger
  • Working on a relationship (boss, partner, children, work colleagues)
  • Sorting out finances
  • Leaving the garden a mess
  • Sorting out your back, knee, hip, and/or shoulder injuries
  • Changing jobs
  • Starting a new hobby
  • Getting more clients
  • Getting rid of an addiction (shopping, gambling, smoking, alcohol, over working)
  • Getting the car fixed
  • Mending that leak
  • Ignoring stress
  • (And so much more)

Then the problem always sticks around and most of the time, it’ll actually get worse!

It was the renowned Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Jung (1875–1961), who taught us that; ‘whatever you resist persists’!. What he meant by that is the more you resist anything in life, the more life seems to bring it to you.

We have all seen this over the few two years, haven’t we? The problems internally and externally that we’ve ignored, have got ten times worse!

We are a reflection of our choices and the environment that we put ourselves in. When we have dis-connection from the self and others, disease and further problems arise.  When we suppress feelings and emotions and don’t discharge them from the body as Candice Pert’s book “Molecules of Emotion” tells us: “We end up in pain physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually”. You may have worked so hard to stifle a problem—but which nonetheless pain and discomfort has “prevailed” within you—this eventually make itself known physically; in the form of symptoms you can no longer avoid.

What causes resistance?

The number one cause is fear. Fear can take many forms. You may fear failure and be concerned that people will judge you if you fail. You may fear change and not be willing to let go of the labels you identify with or the limitations you place on yourself. I speak to many people each day who live in fear of change. You see we all have a story and want to stay in that story as it’s easier.

Resistance reinforces your defence system and encourages you to remain within the safety and security of your comfort zones. Often constructed in childhood, your defence system can protect you from truly feeling unpleasant and sometimes from traumatic thoughts and emotions. Maintaining your defences and only attempting experiences that fit within the constraints of your comfort zone allows you to feel safe. However, resisting change and new experiences may be holding you back from reaching your full potential and sorting out that back problem or career change.

Author and self-help expert, the late Dr Wayne Dyer, taught, “When we stay with the familiar, we take no risks. If we don’t take risks, we don’t have to change and can explain the reason for our lack of growth as a multitude of external circumstances. Comfort keeps us feeling safe, albeit stuck-in-place — and in a place that seldom serves us or those we love, at a higher level. Resistance is a basic part of the fear of changing.”

Believe it or not people tell me they want to change their body, weight, circumstances, job, relationship but they are unwilling to take a different path or a different behaviour of tackling the problem. So they repeat the same behaviour and get the same results.

In order to evolve, develop your unique gifts and explore life’s possibilities.  You must have the courage to pursue your dreams and face challenges head-on. Life should not be a comfort centric experience; it is always going to be full of ups and downs. When you have more tools in your toolbox, you have a better perception and ability to react and troubleshoot.

Your daily actions and particularly what you spend your money on shows your core values and priorities.

So if you are to transcend resistance by stepping outside your comfort zone to unlock your infinite potential and get the body you deserve, DM me your email and cell phone.
