β¨ We all behave, act, and respond in line with our core values.
π‘ What is important to us may not be important to another person.
There are so many positives π to be seen in a booming Pilates industry, such as:
π§ββοΈ Making it accessible to everyone
πͺ Most of Joe Public had never heard of Pilates before Aldi
πββοΈ Lots of people are starting to exercise
π’ Vacant premises from COVID are being used for studios
π©βπ«π·ββοΈπ» Lots of jobs for teachers, software companies, building trade, etc.
π¦β‘οΈπ§ββοΈ The youth of today are at the Pilates studio rather than the pub
π Competition β which makes us all upscale and improve
But there is also another side… π
π¬ I am constantly approached by teachers who want to train but are looking to cut corners βοΈ and choose the fastest approach πββοΈπ¨.
Without knowing it, they not only devalue themselves, but also devalue the benefits that only occur after dedication and time β³.
β±οΈ Teachers are pushing me to cut:
- In-house teaching hours
- Observation hours
- Self-practice hours
- In-house learning hours
π Some just want a piece of paper with their name on it, rather than earning it.
Few are willing to do the pre-requisite work π, show up, shop around, and truly research the system π.
Now remember β Pilates teacher training is not there to teach you Pilates π ββοΈπ§ββοΈ.
Itβs there to teach you how to teach π€π©βπ«.
So, if you’re thinking of training with me, Iβll always ask you to:
1οΈβ£ Take a class or private first
2οΈβ£ See if this is really what you want to do
3οΈβ£ Ask yourself β is this your heart? β€οΈ
4οΈβ£ Are you passionate enough to stick with it in times of adversity? πͺ
π§ββοΈ When I trained with the British Wheel of Yoga, it was a three-year course. I stuck with it.
Yes, I struggled with my mobility π€, but it was about who I became, not just what I got π€οΈβ‘οΈπ―.
That course included:
π§ Education in how to teach
π Learning styles
π Education demands
As many of you know, I’ve teamed up with Mbodies π€ to deliver outstanding Pilates teacher training, especially our apprenticeship π.
But I have my own standard:
β You have to show up
β You have to do the work
β I will not take your money if I donβt think youβre the right fit
β Iβll recommend another school if thatβs best for you
So… what is important to YOU? π€π¬
If you were studying any profession β college, university, etc. β you’d be expected to do:
π« In-house learning
π At-home learning
π In-house practice teaching
β³ In-house practice hours
πͺ Self-reflection
π Observation
Here are some thoughts form the amazing Julie Driver, click here:
βIt is not about division β itβs about raising the standard in the UK, all showing up and doing what you said you would…β ππͺ
ποΈ Our next apprenticeship starts September 2025.
