‘Knowledge is not power, applied knowledge is power!’
We are literally drowning in information but are truly starved of wisdom.
So, despite the fact that we have access to more information than ever in mind and body, we are the most inflamed, the most burnt out, the most undernourished, the most judgemental and the weakest we have been as a society as a whole.
‘The mind when housed in a healthful body, possess a glorious sense of power’ – Joseph Pilates
Most Pilates teachers are surviving from day to day doing endless classes to meet societal expectation of how, what and when we should be showing up in life.
Listen to the science and follow the experts. I hear you say…
But is what we are doing working as a collective???
I have numerous teachers come to me for training, when assessed most have a reverse breath pattern, are stuck in fear, fight and flight or are highly stressed and over worked, as I have also been on many occasions.
We undervalue what we do and over value delivering the instant gratification that society craves.
We want to fit in, rather than stand out, so have the sheep mentality to follow everyone else.
As we know, everyone is time poor these days. If we don’t make time for health, we make time for dis-connection, de-pression, di-vorce and dis-ease.
Where we place our attention is where our energy goes and energy flows. If you change your energy and your output to what’s working, to your strengths and to your gratitude’s, you will always have a better understanding and perspective of life.
‘Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness’ – Joseph Pilates
The three essentials are:
- Gratitude
- Playing to your strengths
- Stacking positivity
Rather than stopping our thoughts, emotions and feelings, we can learn to override them and give our attention to goals, dreams and legacy. These are things that are working in our life, rather than not working.
Media in general keeps us at our lowest level of development of all by cultivating fear. Misery loves company, we complain, moan, criticize and condemn behind handles of online names.
When we are in fear we judge. Judgement creates separation and segregation. In fact, it’s the best way to get people to hate each other. Rudolf Steiner stated that our biggest illusion is that we are separate from each other, when we are in fact one!
Trying to learn any new skill in a poor state of mind which is in essence a poor state of health can be a waste of time. I hear many teachers tell me that it is different for them and their circumstances are different. This can be true, but every day that we wake up we have the option to be the victim of our circumstances or the architect of our futures. Our inner dialogue creates our reality. Our personality reflects our inner reality.
Ask yourself:
WHO AM I?
WHY AM I HERE?
AM I LIVING MY PURPOSE?
As the AA will tell you (ALCHOLHOLICS ANONYMOUS), your peer group and your environment are everything. If you want to reach your potential in life you have got to look carefully at everything you are consuming or inputting through what you watch, listen to, speak and where your expenditure is going.
My personal strategies are journaling, cooking, podcasts and movement.
Soap operas whether reality or fantasy keep us in a gossip state of mind. Look at what you are discussing with your friends, family and work colleagues.
Always shift conversations to inspiration and excitement about the future rather than living in past or problems. You become exactly what you feed yourself.
Empowerment of the body and mind is taking responsibility for yourself.
Every time we blame each other, we simply give our power away.
Being distracted is a choice and decision, so put down your devices.
Living in line with your core values as a Pilates teacher is important.
If you are getting bored, hate showing up and everything that you are doing is an effort and you are cancelling, you are not living in line with your core values.
The new Pilates teacher era must value marketing skills and have the ability to deliver valuable information to those potential clients.
The new Pilates era also must value growth and contribution. Everything is a two-way relationship and for anything to happen in life it must be a 50/50 exchange of energy.
Conclusion
If you want to learn a new skill, then teach it, execute the information straight away.
Live in line with your core values.
Learn from a state of health, enhanced prana, dantean or chi.
